The team behind the new documentary “Val” about actor/artist Val Kilmer. I speak with the co-directors Leo Scott & Ting Poo, as well as with Val’s adult children Mercedes Kilmer and Jack Kilmer who, in addition to participating in the documentary, also helped produce. Kilmer, one of Hollywood’s most mercurial actors has been documenting his life and craft through film. He has amassed thousands of hours of footage, from home movies made with his brothers, to time spent in iconic roles for blockbuster films like “Top Gun” & “Batman Forever”. This raw and wildly original documentary reveals a life lived to extremes and a heart-filled look at what it means to be an artist. Amazon Studios has released “Val” in theaters as of July 23rd and will premiere on Prime Video August 6th.

Filmmaker Pascual Sisto makes his first appearance on Filmwax with his premiere feature, “John and the Hole“, a hit at both Cannes and Sundance. A desperate game of survival unfolds after 13 year old John (Charlie Shotwell) traps his family in a hole in the ground in this unsettling psychological thriller. The film, which also stars Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Ehle and Taissa Farmgia, opens today in Select Theaters and Everywhere Films Are Rented on Friday, August 6th.
