The film critic and author Keith Phipps makes his first appearance on Filmwax. Phipps is the author of the book “Age of Cage” (Henry Holt & Co., 2022). Sweeping in scope and intimate in its profile of a fiercely passionate artist, “Age of Cage” is, like the man himself, surprising, insightful, funny, and one of a kind. The book is available wherever books are sold. And don’t miss Keith’s film writing available on his Substack.

Melissa Lyde is the curator of Alfreda’s Cinema, working towards becoming the only micro-cinema in Brooklyn to operate under the leadership of a black woman with a mission to screen films that celebrate black and non-black people of color. Founded by Lyde in 2015, Alfreda’s Cinema screens films that tell black stories that resonate with depth and love, the richness and culture of their history, dynamics, shapes, colors, and their truth. By strategically operating in a predominantly black neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY,  Alfreda’s Cinema aims to connect audiences with black-told stories.
