This episode centers on a new documentary that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, “Kim’s Video“, and which opens theatrically today , Friday, 4/5, at the Quad Cinema in NYC and at Vidiots in Los Angeles. After entrepreneur Yongman Kim donated the entire collection of rare, esoteric and arthouse videos from his iconic East Village shop, Kim’s Video, to a small Sicilian town for preservation back in 2009, the story goes off the rails. Joining me for this fascinating discussion are filmmakers Ashley Sabin & David Redmon, and the man himself, Mr. Yongman Kim!

Physical media reigns supreme in “Kim’s Video”, an elegiac tribute to the iconic video store in New York City that inspired a generation of cinephiles before it mysteriously closed its doors and sent its legendary film archive to a small Sicilian village for safekeeping. But what starts as an homage to cinema quickly becomes a rescue mission to ensure the eternal preservation of the beloved video collection.
