The documentary filmmaker PJ Raval (“Before You Know It”) returns after a 10 year absence to discuss his latest film “Who We Become”. In his film, three young Filipino women grapple with an emerging global pandemic while growing connections with their families. The film, produced by Ava Duvernay’s Array, is currently streaming on Netflix.

Also, documentary producers Simon Kilmurry (returning to Filmwax after 9 years) and Susan Margolin (making her first appearance on the podcast) discuss the recent passing of filmmaker and Filmwax friend Nancy Buirski and her film on which they collaborated, “Desperate Souls, Dark City and the Legend of Midnight Cowboy“. Nancy had appeared on Filmwax to discuss this film only days before she passed away. Now the film has been shortlisted for an Oscar.
