The team behind an outstanding new web series, “Group“, writer/director Alexis Lloyd and one of the executive producers, Jack Lechner (returning to the podcast for his second visit). “Group” follows eight New Yorkers who are exploring hidden truths about their own intimacy, loneliness, sexuality, and fears. The first season’s 7 episodes are shot entirely in one room with Dr. Ezra (actual therapist Dr. Elliot Zeisel PhD, LCSW, CGP who also serves as a co-executive Producer for the series). The second season’s 6 episodes are done over Zoom due to the pandemic. The series was inspired by Irvin Yalom’s novel “The Schopenhauer Cure”.
Back for his 5th visit to the podcast, filmmaker Sam Pollard. His latest film “MLK/FBI” opens today in theaters around the country as well as on most streaming platforms. “MLK/FBI” is the first film to uncover the extent of the FBI’s surveillance and harassment of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Based on newly discovered and declassified files, utilizing a trove of documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act and unsealed by the National Archives, as well as revelatory restored footage, the documentary explores the government’s history of targeting Black activists, and the contested meaning behind some of our most cherished ideals. Film at Lincoln Center is also hosting a virtual retrospective of Sam’s work: “A Tribute to Sam Pollard” which runs from today through January 22nd.
